Baseball: Mt. Abe tops VUHS

ADDISON COUNTY — The Mount Abraham baseball team defeated rival Vergennes on Tuesday to highlight high school baseball play in the past week.
In other action, the Eagles broke into the win column over the weekend, while Commodores dropped their first two games, and the Otters came up short at home.

EAGLES TOPS VUHS
The Eagles took advantage of a tough day by VUHS in the field to emerge with a 7-3 victory on Tuesday: The Commodores were charged with six errors.
Ryan Whitcomb earned the pitching win for the 2-1 Eagles, tossing six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out five; he also contributed an RBI single. Colby Lathrop homered for the Eagles, and Adam Mansfield and Tanner Harris added RBI hits.
Tucker Stearns took the pitching loss for the 0-3 Commodores despite allowing just four hits and striking out 10 in six innings. Barret Barrows singled and drove in two runs, and Jarret Muzzy singled and drove in a run for VUHS.

COMMODORES
VUHS dropped its opener on Friday, April 23, to Division I Colchester, 14-5. Stearns took the pitching loss, but stroked three hits and scored twice to pace the VUHS attack. Elijah Duprey added a pair of hits for the Commodores.
On Saturday the Commodores came up short at Enosburg, 2-0, as Hornet hurler Kam Lovelette tossed a two-hit shutout and fanned 13.
Lovelette outdueled Muzzy, who allowed three hits and struck out 12 in six innings. Muzzy also had both VUHS hits.

EAGLES WIN
On Saturday, the Eagles won a slugfest at Missisquoi, 13-11. Pacing the Mount Abe attack were Lathrop (two hits, three runs), Mansfield (single, triple, and a run), and Harris and Chance Denecker, each of whom chipped in two hits and two stolen bases and scored twice.
