Boys’ soccer: Tigers tip Eagles; VUHS winning streak continues

ADDISON COUNTY — In recent high school boys’ soccer action, Middlebury topped visiting Mount Abraham, Vergennes made a move in Division III with three straight wins, the Eagles lost on the road to D-II’s first-place squad, and Otter Valley fell at home.
The Tigers also hosted Spaulding on Tuesday; see story on Page 1B.

TIGERS OVER EAGLES
On Saturday the Eagles took a lead over host MUHS in the 23rd minute on a Branden Reynolds penalty kick. But the Tigers (4-1-1) earned a 3-1 win on two goals from Oliver Anderson, one unassisted just before halftime and one assisted by Owen Connelly in the second half, plus a goal from Andy Giorgio.
In an Oct. 14 battle of the then unbeatens, visiting Milton topped the Tiger boys, 3-2. Keeper Braeden Carragher made four saves for the 5-0 Yellowjackets, who scored twice on set pieces. Lucas Nelson and Henry Carpenter scored for the Tigers, and Trey Bosworth picked up an assist. Owen Lawton made eight saves in net.

COMMODORES
On Oct. 14 the Commodores blanked host Fair Haven, 2-0. Jonah Mahé and Jarret Muzzy scored, and keeper Gabe Kadric stopped one shot.
On Saturday the Commodores cruised to a 6-0 win over visiting Spaulding. Avery Husk and Tucker Stearns each scored twice, and Muzzy and Shamus Rooney both contributed a goal and an assist. Kadric made one save, and Kent Barcomb stopped eight shots for the struggling Tide.
The streak continued on Tuesday, when VUHS (6-1-1) edged host Missisquoi, 1-0. Jonathan Willis provided the offense with a 60th-minute penalty kick, and Kadric made two saves as he and the defense posted their third straight shutout. The Commodores look to have locked down at least a top-four seed in D-III.

EAGLES
On Tuesday Milton remained unbeaten by blanking the visiting Eagles, 9-0, scoring all nine goals in the second half. Mount Abe dropped to 2-5 heading into a 10 a.m. Saturday home game vs. the Commodores.

OTTERS
On Tuesday visiting Woodstock coasted past the Otters, 9-0, dropping OV to 2-4 after an 0-2 start. The Otters will try to end their regular season on a winning note at Springfield on Thursday.
