In local boys' soccer, only the Eagles win

ADDISON COUNTY — As local high school boys’ soccer teams recently debuted, Mount Abraham picked up a solid road win, but Middlebury and Otter Valley came up short.

Vergennes was set to open on Stowe on Wednesday after the deadline for this edition.

EAGLES

The Eagles on Tuesday defeated host Green Mountain Valley in their opener, 4-1. Late first-half goals by Branden Reynolds, from a scramble, and Tanner Harris, assisted by Silas Burgess on a corner kick, snapped a scoreless tie.

An Eric McKean penalty kick made it 3-0 before Gumby Christian Riis answered in the 57th minute. Harris gave the Eagles a pad goal two minutes later, this time with a through-ball assist from Jonas Schroeder.

Ethan DeWitt and Will Vichi shared time in the Eagle goal, and Coach Bob Russell credited the defense of Griff Paradee and Ryan Lathrop.

TIGERS

On Aug. 30 visiting Colchester got a hat trick from Foster Viau in a 3-1 victory over the Tigers. The game was evenly contested, but the Lakers took better advantage of their chances. Viau scored early in both halves, one-timing a Sam Clark serve from the right for the game’s opening score and making it 3-0 by heading home a Clark cross just after the half. In between Viau made it 2-0 by tapping home a loose ball after the Tigers miscommunicated on a ball in the back.

Owen Connelly banged home a goalmouth feed from David Peters with 11 minutes to go, and the Tigers created a number of chances. Colchester goalie Domenick Puttlitz made four saves, and Tiger goalie Owen Lawton stopped two shots; Logan Pierson-Flagg also saw action in net.

OTTERS

On Saturday Fair Haven (2-0) edged OV, 2-1, in a game played in Pittsford as part of the Jimmy T. Memorial Showcase. First-half goals by Slaters Nick Carrabino and Jacob Hochberg proved to be the difference. Hayden Bernhardt scored on a Sawyer Pierpont set-up in the second half for the Otters. OV was set to play Mount Anthony on Wednesday.
