Otter girls’ soccer wins, Eagles fall

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer action this past week Otter Valley won big at home in its opener, while Mount Abraham split a pair of games, and Vergennes lost a close road game. 
Vergennes also visited Middlebury on Oct. 2; see story.
Results from Wednesday games will be added to this story online on Thursday. All four local girls’ soccer teams were scheduled to see action on Wednesday, but most games were postponed due to the threat of thunderstorms. 

OTTERS
Elena Politano netted four goals in the OV girls’ soccer team’s 7-1 win against visiting Mill River on Friday. The victory made a winner of OV coach Tammi Blanchard in her debut leading the program. 
Ella Brytowski added a pair of goals for the Otters, and Elena Politano’s older sister Mia Politano also found the net as OV controlled the action and prevailed in its opener. Beleaguered MRU goalie Malori Carlson made 20 saves as her team dropped to 0-2.

EAGLES
Host Rice got a pair of goals from Emma Blanck and topped the Eagle girls on Oct. 2, 2-0, despite a dozen saves from goalie Host Rice blanked the Eagle girls on Friday, 2-0, despite a dozen saves from goalie Joanna Toy and good work from central defender Savannah Scrodin. The Eagles dropped to 1-1.
Mount Abe’s Monday home game vs. Division I Rutland was postponed due to the visitors’ uncertainty over the COVID-19 outbreak announced at a Shoreham orchard over the weekend. 

COMMODORES
On Wednesday host Milton edged the Commodores, 1-0. Co-Coach Peter Maneen said the VUHS defense played well, and goalie Kate Gosligamade three saves. VUHS is 1-1-2 after its first setback.
