Otter Valley football tops Oxbow

BRANDON — The Otter Valley football team defeated visiting Oxbow on Saturday, 23-15, on a tie-breaking, 76-yard touchdown pass from QB Alex Polli to Chance Passmore with 24 seconds to go.
Running back Nathaniel Blake’s two-point conversion run created the final score in the Division III matchup, but the Otters had to survive a scare after Oxbow completed a pass to the OV six after the ensuing kickoff. OV linebacker Spencer Pelkey sacked Oxbow QB Cooper Simmons to end the threat.
OV improved to 3-2 and took over fourth place in D-III, while Oxbow dropped to 2-3 and into fifth.
Blake ran for 139 yards on 18 carries and scored two TDs on runs of 16 and 17 yards, one on OV’s first possession of the game and one late in the third period that put OV on top, 15-8.
Oxbow scored on a safety, on a bad snap and two TD passes from Simmons to Hunter Locke, the second of which was a 24-yarder that tied the game early in the fourth quarter.
Simmons completed 17 of 39 passes for 168 yards. Polli hit on 15 of 29 attempts. Passmore caught seven balls for 167 yards. The Otters will visit Mill River (1-4) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
