Vermont Brew’s first season cancelled
MIDDLEBURY — The Vermont Brew Professional Arena Football Team has cancelled its inaugural 2020 season due to the current COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a team press release, the team, which had arranged to play its home games in Middlebury’s Memorial Sports Center starting on March 28, “will look to return in 2021.”
The release stated the Brew “is acting in lock-step with other professional and collegiate sports leagues and teams.”
“It is with regret that we make this announcement,” said Head Coach and General Manager Claude Flynn. “We have an enormous responsibility to keep our fans and players safe and out of harm’s way. At this time, it is uncertain how long the outbreak will last and how severe it may be locally, and therefore we must do what is prudent.”
The Brew had been scheduled to hold a mini-camp this week in Rutland in advance of its home opener later this month.
