The host Eagles, led by Ruby Jean Hall and Ruby Markowski in seventh and eight places, respectively, edged Missisquoi for second place, 57-58.
Sophomore Nat McVeigh paced the Tiger boys, who finished 1-2-3 and scored 27 points to hold off the second-place Eagles (41...
VERGENNES — In an early-season defensive battle at Vergennes Union High School on Tuesday, one free kick proved to be the difference as visiting Middlebury came away with a 1-0 victory over the host Commodores.
The goal came in the second half’s 31st minute courtesy of Tiger senior right back Devon Kearns. Senior center midfielder Owen Palcsik sent a low direct kick from just outside the left of the VUHS box. It bounced just past the penalty stripe.
Somehow the roller eluded the Commodore defense, stout all game long. Also eluding them was a 12-yard, left-footed tap-in from Kearns, breaking...

A quick look at any recent Toronto Blue Jays box score has “Bichette” leading off, followed by “Biggio,” and then “Guerrero?”
Dante Bichette made four all-star teams and retired in 2001; Craig Biggio played 19 years for the Houston Astros and was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2015; Vladimir Guerrero played eight years in nearby Montreal and eight years elsewhere and was elected just last year into the shrine at Cooperstown.
Well, these are their boys, playing in the big leagues, all on the same club: Bo Bichette (21 years old), Cavan Biggio (24) and Vlad...
