MIDDLEBURY — The prospect of a COVID-resistant population by July is inspiring leaders of the county’s two entertainment hubs to start planning for a return to in-person entertainment later this year. Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater will begin offering outdoor events in the sprint and plans to resume its traditional theater education programs this summer and restart in-person performance late summer and in the fall. For its part, the Vergennes Opera House is planning its typical fall lineup of shows and prepping for the easing of COVID-19 restrictions so it can again offer the Main Street...

VERGENNES — The volunteers who make up the Friends of the Vergennes Opera House organization — and, in fact, operate the theater — spent late winter and spring learning about how to deal with a pandemic and planning and considering when to re-open the linchpin of the city’s arts scene. On the weekend of Aug. 14 to 16 the product of their efforts will be unveiled — three shows that will offer the talents of the performers who for years have entertained opera house audiences with the popular “Broadway Direct” fundraisers. In this case they will be doing business as The Little City Cabaret....
ADDISON COUNTY — There’s a popular saying in entertainment circles — “The show must go on.” Well, the coronavirus has trumped that maxim for performance venues around Addison County, as it should. The curtains are drawn and the stage lights have dimmed for an uncertain length of time, until society receives the “all-clear signal” from health care officials. Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater was already anticipating a modified performance schedule this year as a result of the downtown Middlebury rail bridges project, which will include a 10-week shutdown of Main Street and Merchants Row beginning...

He tapped into the beginning of his success with “The Logger” act back in the 1990s and has been riding that wave for 23 years. DeWees will return to where it all began — the...
