Wolves oust Tiger boys’ tennis, 7-0

MIDDLEBURY — Host No. 4 seed South Burlington defeated the No. 5 Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team on Thursday, 7-0, in a Division I quarterfinal. It was the 10-2 Wolves’ second straight 7-0 playoff victory after they defeated Champlain Valley by the same score in the first round.
The Tigers finished another winning spring at 12-3. Coach Ken Schoen said the final score and the individual match scores were misleading — his team played strong tennis against one of the state’s top team.
“This was a good season. We lost 7-0 today to a team that might win the state title, and we were competitive in all the matches,” Schoen said.
He also praised the Tigers’ sportsmanship.
“All the Middlebury boys were very composed and graceful in defeat. They all knew that they were close in each match and pretty proud with their solid performances,” Schoen said.
In individual matches:
•At No. 1 singles Sam Walker (SB) defeated Jesse Rubin (MUHS), 6-2, 6-2.
•At No. 2 singles Ragulan Sivakumar (SB) defeated Spencer Doran (MUHS), 6-2, 6-3.
