MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s basketball won two out of three recent games, prevailing on the road on Tuesday in a non-league contest after the Panthers split their first two NESCAC games of the year this past weekend. The Panthers (12-3, 1-1 NESCAC) will next host league foes Colby and Bowdoin on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m., respectively. MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s basketball team opened second-semester play by winning three of four non-league games between Dec. 31 and Tuesday. The 10-2 Panthers open NESCAC play this weekend by hosting Amherst at 7 p.m. on Friday and Hamilton at 3 p.m. on Saturday. On Dec. 31 the Panthers outscored visiting Mount Saint Mary College, 26-7, in the fourth quarter to rally for a 58-47 victory. Betsy Knox recorded 14 points and career-high 16 rebounds. ROCHESTER, N.Y. — On Tuesday the Middlebury College women’s basketball team got a last-second putback from Maya Davis to edge host Nazareth, 83-82, in overtime. The game concluded first-semester play for the 7-1 Panthers, whose only loss came when two starters sat with injuries. They will return to action on Dec. 31 with a 2 p.m. home game vs. Mt. St. Mary. NEW LONDON, N.H. — A shorthanded Middlebury College women’s basketball team on Saturday dropped its first game of the season, 72-65, to host Colby-Sawyer, which improved to 6-1. The Panthers were playing without two injured starters. Junior forward Betsy Knox, who is averaging about 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, sat with what is described as a minor knee injury, while freshman guard Gianna Palli missed the game with an undisclosed ailment suffered earlier last week in a win over Sage. MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s basketball team recently picked up three more victories to improve to 6-0. The Panthers will visit Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon. On Nov. 26 the Panthers got past previously undefeated Castleton, 64-60, in overtime at home. After regulation ended in a 52-52 tie, The Panthers opened overtime with two Kira Waldman layups sandwiched around a three-point play from Betsy Knox for a 59-54 edge with 3:21 left. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Middlebury College women’s basketball team pulled away in the third quarter on Saturday in a 74-59 victory over host Skidmore (2-3).  The Panthers were looking to improve on a 3-0 record when they hosted Castleton on Tuesday after the early holiday deadline for this edition of the Independent. Next up is a game at Cabrini on Saturday. On this past Saturday Betsy Knox scored a career-high 23 points for the Panthers and added a dozen rebounds.
