Boston Celtics official and VUHS alum tapped to speak at Vergennes graduation
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Union High School Class of 2017 has selected as its graduation speaker a member of the VUHS Class of 1973 whose employer is in the headlines right now — at least in sports sections.
Jeff Twiss, the Boston Celtics vice president of Media Services and Alumni Relations, will be the featured speaker at the June 9 commencement at VUHS. The Celtics, of course, entered Wednesday night tied 2-2 with the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Twiss went on from VUHS to earn an undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont (he received a Distinguished Alumni Award from UVM) and a master’s degree in sports management from UMass-Amherst. He has been with the Celtics since 1981, Larry Bird’s second season with the team.
He taught health and physical education at Randolph Union High School before going to work for the Celtics and probably will have plenty of insights to impart in the VUHS gymnasium. Probably not whom Celtics’ General Manager Danny Ainge likes in the June 22 NBA draft, though.
