Tiger boys hockey prevails in overtime

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team on Saturday defeated visiting Harwood, 3-2, in overtime to improve to 13-4-1 and stretch their unbeaten string to seven games.
The Tigers will conclude their regular season on Wednesday at Mount Mansfield, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will release Division II playoff pairings on Thursday.
MUHS is currently in third place behind Woodstock (15-1-1) and U-32 (15-2-1), but moved ahead of Stowe (14-5) by winning twice last week while the Raiders split a pair of games. The Tigers appear already to have earned home ice through the quarterfinal round, but need help to earn a home semifinal.
On Saturday, Harwood (8-10-1) forced overtime when Connor Cameron scored a power-play goal with seven seconds left in regulation.
Then Tyler Crowningshield scored seven seconds into overtime to give MUHS the victory.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Jerry Niemo and Erik Sherman. Andrew Gleason assisted two scores, and Crowningshield also helped set up a goal. Tiger goalie Sawyer Ryan stopped 14 shot, while the Highlanders goalie Dean Touchette made 17 saves.
