City food drives collect donations
VERGENNES — Two local organizations teamed up in April to collect food and donations for the Greater Vergennes Area Food Shelf in a joint effort called the “Food for Families Food Drive.”
The St. Isaac Jogues Council 3664 Knights of Columbus from St. Peter’s Parish in Vergennes and the Greater Vergennes Rotary Club set up in front of Shaw’s grocery and Kinney’s drug stores to encourage shoppers to pick up something extra for hungry families in need as they did their shopping during a weekend in late April.
The community responded to this request, donating 1,610 pounds of food items and sundries as well as $425 in cash. Representatives of the food shelf thanked the Knights and Rotarians for their time and effort.
