ORWELL — Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell this month will host an illustrated talk titled, “Some Revolutionary Women of the Southern Lake Champlain Valley.” The program on Saturday, July 24, at 1 p.m., will provide context on women during the American Revolution and introduce some of the resilient women of Vermont’s southern Lake Champlain Valley during the war. How did the war interrupt their lives? What were their contributions leading to settlement and as founders of their new towns and the new nation? ORWELL — Hike into history at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, on Sunday, Oct. 11, the last day of the season, from 1-4 p.m. Stephen Zeoli, president of the Mount Independence Coalition, will be your guide. It is included in regular site admission of $5 for adults and free for those under 15. Pre-registration is required — call 802-948-2000, space is limited. ORWELL — Children ages 6 to 10 are welcome to come for an hour of Revolutionary story time on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell. The program runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program, sponsored in collaboration with the Orwell Free Library, will include stories, hands-on activities, simple crafts, and some outdoor time if the weather permits. The theme is the American Revolution and history of Mount Independence.  Children who attend need to be accompanied by a responsible adult, and organizers recommend bringing snacks or a picnic to enjoy afterwords...
