MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded a report of a possible retail theft and hate-motivated disorderly conduct case at a Court Street business on Nov. 15. 
Police said a customer, angry that the charge machine for EBT cards was not working, allegedly left the store without paying for merchandise while shouting racial slurs at the clerk.
Police aid the case remains under investigation.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Found prescription drugs on Washington Street and notified the owner to come to the station collect them on Nov. 9.
•  Responded to a report of gunfire heard in the Schoolhouse Hill Road area on Nov. 9.
•  Investigated a disorderly conduct complaint at Middlebury Union High School on Nov. 9.
•  Investigated a report that employees of a Court Street business allegedly weren’t wearing face coverings on Nov. 9.
•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS with a drunken patient in the South Pleasant Street area on Nov. 9.
•  Returned a found wallet to its owner on Nov. 10.
•  Assisted Porter Hospital staff with a patient who had gotten out of control on Nov. 10.
•  Assisted a local family with an adult child who they said was under the influence of some type of drug and had potential mental health issues on Nov. 10.
•  Monitored reports of speeding on Creek Road (near the recreation center) during the morning of Nov. 10.
•  Responded to a domestic disturbance at a Weybridge Street home on Nov. 11. Police said one of the people involved left to stay with a parent.
•  Received a report on Nov. 11 about a man allegedly walking in the middle of Lower Plains Road yelling at a passing vehicle. Police said they couldn’t find the man.
•  Restored peace between two people who were arguing in the Champlain Farms store on Court Street on Nov. 11.
•  Received a complaint on Nov. 12 that the employees of a Court Street business had allegedly not been properly wearing face masks when dealing with customers.
•  Were informed of the theft of a red 2015 Toyota Prius from a parking lot off Route 7 South on Nov. 12. The matter remains under investigation.
•  Received a complaint on Nov. 12 that the employees of an East Main Street business had allegedly not been wearing face masks when dealing with customers.
•  Received a complaint on Nov. 13 that the employees of a Route 7 South business had allegedly not been wearing face masks when engaging with customers.
•  Received a complaint on Nov. 13 from a Benedict Lane resident that his vehicle had either been struck or keyed twice during the past couple of months.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a person who was not wanted at a Court Street Extension business on Nov. 14.
•  Responded to a report of an argument between two people at a South Village Green apartment on Nov. 14.
•  Were informed someone had stolen the license plates off a vehicle parked off South Street on Nov. 14.
•  Investigated a report of a man sleeping behind a Dumpster at the Walgreen’s store off Court Street Extension on Nov. 14. Police said the man had left upon their arrival.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a man found sleeping in a Middlebury College building off Porter Field Road on Nov. 15.
•  Received a report about a “disoriented man” trying to enter a Monroe Street home at around 7:15 p.m. on Nov. 15. Police took the man to Porter Hospital for an exam, and then gave him a ride home.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a man who had allegedly been harassing and “cat calling” customers at Hannaford supermarket on Nov, 15. Police said the man had been issued several no trespass orders during the weekend for “disruptive conduct” at other locations in town.
•  Served no-trespass orders on two men who had allegedly been creating problems in the Wilson Road area on Nov. 15.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a person found loitering in a Stonegate Drive resident’s backyard on Nov. 15.
•  Served no-trespass orders on two men who had entered a closed Boardman Street business in order to sleep on Nov. 15. Police said the men declined referrals to a state agency that could have provided them with lodging assistance.
•  Found two homeless men who had started a camp fire between two Court Street businesses on Nov. 15. Police said the men declined referrals for housing assistance.
