Girls' soccer teams see mixed results
ADDISON COUNTY — In recent area girls’ soccer play Vergennes won, Otter Valley picked up one victory in three tries, and Mount Abraham and Middlebury were defeated.
The Eagles also hosted the Commodores on Tuesday; see story on Page 1B.
Teams are in their final week of play, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will announce playoff pairings on Monday morning.
On Saturday the Commodores blanked visiting Green Mountain Valley, 3-0. Emily Rooney scored twice, Sydney Weber notched a goal and an assist, and Hannah Kelly set up Weber’s goal that gave VUHS the early lead. Kate Gosliga made one save to earn the shutout, while Gumby goalie Cassandra Cormier made 16 saves.
One more win for the 8-3-1 Commodores should assure them of a top-four seed in Division III; they host Spaulding on Saturday to close out the season.
The Eagles suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss at Milton on Saturday night under the lights despite an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Becca Laurent scored for the Eagles, and goalie Justice Green made two saves. Sam Orest scored twice and two goalies combined for eight saves for Milton, which improved to 5-6-1 with the win.
The Eagles dropped to 9-3, but should be able to hold onto a top-four seed with wins vs. VUHS on Tuesday and Middlebury on Friday.
On Friday the 11th visiting Fair Haven topped the Otters, 4-2. Olivia White scored both OV goals, one on an assist on a long ball from center back Leah Pinkowski.
On Monday the Otters romped over D-IV Mount St. Joseph, 9-0, as White racked up five goals and three assists. Julia Eastman added a pair of goals, Leah Pinkowski chipped in a goal and two assists, Faith Scarborough scored, and Mary Kingsley set up a goal.
On Tuesday host Hartford defeated OV, 3-1. White scored her 22nd goal of the campaign for OV, with Pinkowski assisting, as the Otters dropped to 4-8-1 heading into their regular season finale at Springfield on Saturday.
On Saturday visiting Spaulding topped the Tigers, 5-3, as the Tide’s Lauren Allen scored three times. Hannah Turner, Ivy Doran and Lia Robinson found the net for the Tigers, and goalie Carly Burger stopped seven shots, a total matched by two Tide keepers.
On Tuesday host Milton bested the Tigers, 4-1. Doran, from Mardi Horne, scored for MUHS, and Burger and Julia Bartlett combined for seven saves as the Tigers dropped to 2-11 heading into their Friday date at Mount Abe.
